Artist, author, designer, inventor, world traveler, Lockwood de Forest (1850-1932) was truly a man of many facets. Born into a prosperous and socially connected New York City family, he evidenced artistic talent at an early age. As a young man he studies in Rome and then came under the tutelage of the famed Hudson River School landscapist, Frederic Church. A prodigious traveler, de Forest eventually settled in Santa Barbara in 1919 where he lived out the rest of his life.
